Tim Finn and his younger brother Neil both have long, impressive musical pedigrees, together and apart. In addition to their solo careers, they've worked together at various points with Split Enz and Crowded House, which were essentially Tim's and Neil's bands, respectively. The singing/songwriting brothers meet on equal footing, however, under the Finn Brothers moniker. Their second album under that name, EVERYONE IS HERE is unsurprisingly full to overflowing with Beatles-derived pop hooks, elegantly unfurling melodies, and irresistible good vibes.
Few will be surprised that the disc has much in common with the amiable pop-rock of Crowded House, mixed with the somewhat more atmospheric, introspective approach of the Finns' solo recordings. Though Mitchell Froom produced most of the tracks, he avoided stamping them with his trademark sound (heavily processed keyboards and dry, flat-sounding drums), instead giving the brothers free reign to work their lush pop magic. While most of the lyrics evince a hopeful outlook, it's not a pie-in-the-sky perspective, but one of hard-earned wisdom, the kind that makes the songs (and the singers) all the more believable.

Q (p.118) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[With] the same instantly familiar mix of intensity and craftsmanship, gently twangy guitars, seductive tunefulness and imagery nobody else uses."
Uncut (p.96) - 3 stars out of 5 - "EVERYONE IS HERE represents a masterclass in mature songcraft. Lyrically, the mood is reflective, concerning lessons learnt and experiences endured, with more than a whiff of nostalgia."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.95) - 3 stars out of 5 - "On EVERYONE IS HERE, you'll find some of the most haunting music to bear the Finn imprint."
